so lindsey and i went on a "pub crawl" last night with three new friends, luke, akbar, and ketan. we started off at the bishop's finger, a pub that lindsey and i had wanted to visit since day one in canterbury. the bishops finger ale on tap was alright, but not stellar, and the pub was pretty quiet, so we decided to walk around the corner to wetherspoon's where they sell 1 pound beers. lindsey and i both got a strong cider which ended up tasting like smoked ham. gross! but we payed big money for it so we finished our pints like champs. next up, the boys led us to the orange street club through an inconspicuous door and up a flight of stairs. inside, there was dim lighting, plenty of cushy armchair seating, tables full of people, and a live band! i got a pint of good ol' guinness and settled in at the back corner to enjoy some music and atmosphere.
at the end of the night, we parted with the boys and lindsey and i then walked back to campus in the freezing cold with four other guys that we knew and happened to also be at the orange club.
next tuesday: the unicorn!

monday went to a club downtown called "the works" on the first big night of the new year where all the students come. it was jam-packed and so much fun! i've never been to a club before so it was a very unique experience. the club consists of three floors playing three different types of music. i went up to the third floor to discover hip hop and promptly tried to go back down. however, i guess everyone else had the same idea at the same time so we all headed to the stairwell and got stuck. i've never been in a human traffic jam before, but it's very smelly, hot, and terrifying. i feared that i would be smothered to death in a sea of bodies, but i got out alive. i made it down to the first floor where the majority of my friends were, and danced to good old american music and was lost in the fog from a nearby smoke machine. yesterday i went to a pub across campus called woody's to celebrate obama's inauguration. this time i finished my first pint! woo! then i went back to lindsey's place since i didn't want to walk across campus alone at night, and sleepovers are fun anyway, and we watched top gun and started planning a trip. we booked our flight and hotel today! we're going to belgium on february 6th and i'm SO EXCITED! beer! chocolate! waffles! more beer!
oh jeez. someone is playing celine dion on the guitar rather loudly somewhere nearby. there are also girls singing "my heart will go on" at the top of their lungs. i think i may cut off my ears.
